Legacy Cancer
Okay so I know officially this toy is called Squeezeplay and not Cancer but:
- The colors of this toy are based on the colors that Cancer had in the Super-God Masterforce anime
- He comes packaged with an accessory of Browning in gun mode as his weapon, and Browning was Cancer's friend in Masterforce
- In livestreams, they specifically referred to this toy as an incarnation of Cancer
So I've got no issues calling him Cancer based on all that (I mean I'd do it anyway since I prefer the Masterforce Headmaster Jrs over the American 1988 smaller Headmasters anyway) and it's pretty obvious why they can't call a children's toy Cancer.
Anyways, this toy was released as part of a now-expected annual Target 4-pack back in 2024, alongside Tarantulas, Prime Cliffjumper, and Cyberverse Tarn. I really only wanted Cancer (good thing to take out of context) and not the other four figures, but I got the whole pack on sale for $60. So $15 a pop for three Deluxes and a Voyager? Pretty nice. (And honestly the other toys that came in the pack are cool too)
Huge fan of Masterforce too and I want all the modern Masterforce updates, so I still need to get ahold of the previously released Fangry and Horri-bull to use as Wilder and Bullhorn. The only annoyance is they were all 4-pack releases too, but it's been leaked they're going to rerelease Fangry standalone this year, so I'll grab him then and get Horri-bull on eBay or something. Then I'll have the Destron Headmaster Jrs. complete and then the wait starts for the Autobots...
Oh, yeah I'm supposed to talk about the toy too, right? It's pretty good - it's a heavy retool of Mindwipe from Titans Return back in 2016. And I do mean a heavy retool. I don't own Mindwipe but comparing photos of that toy to Cancer here, here's a list of everything that is the same between the two toys:
- The top parts of the shoulders (the tan parts) and the ball joint and connecting strut to the torso
- The elbow hinge
- The hands
- The connecting piece on the side of the torso that connects to the two things that stick up behind Cancer's back
- The waist
- The black parts on his legs (the thigh swivels, pretty much)
- The connecting strut that connects the crab monster head to the body
- The Headmaster's torso
That's it - literally every single other part of this toy is completely different from Mindwipe. And like I said, it's a pretty good figure too. Fun to transform back and forth mindlessly (I'm currently using him as my fiddle toy), good posability - especially considering the underlying mold is from 2016, it's just pretty good. Not 'OMG THIS TOY IS THE BEST TRANSFORMER OF 2024' but, y'know, it's good and I like having it in my collection.
