Ace and Imperial Dalek

An action figure of Ace from Doctor Who, she is a white teenage girl wearing a black jacket decorated with varous (painted on) pins and patches overa white t-shirt with musical notes, a black skirt, black leggings, and black shoes. A closer shot of the Ace action figure, showing of her face in more detail. In addition to the clothes she already was wearing, her backpack accessory has been put on as well. A close up shot of Ace's left arm, showing off the various 'pins' and 'patches' on that part of her jacket. Details that are identifiable are a patch saying '1987', a red star with a hammer and sickle, and a football (soccer) A close up shot of Ace's back, showing off the details on the back of her jacket. The only detail is her name 'Ace' with the A in red and the c and e in yellow A close up shot of Ace's right arm, showing off the various 'pins' and 'patches' on that part of her jacket. Details that are identifiable are a white smiley face, a yellow smiley face, and what looks to be a NASA mission patch A close up shot of Ace's torso, showing off the various 'pins' and 'patches' on that part of her jacket. Details that are identifiable are an American flag, a patch that reads 'Ace Roofing Go Lee', what appears to be a 'pin' of half a British flag, and a Blue Peter badge An Imperial Dalek action figure. A white Dalek (look you all know what a bloody Dalek looks like) with golden slats, bumps, gun arm, plunger arm, eyestalk, and tops of the lights on its head A close up shot of the Imperial Dalek's dome Another photo of the Imperial Dalek Yet another photo of the Imperial Dalek, but this time utilizing forced perspective with a car in the background to make it look as if it were actually a full-size Dalek and not merely an action figure A photograph of Ace wielding her rocket launcher accessory with the Dalek in the background, patrolling A photograph of the Dalek on its side with Ace standing over it and looking at it, as if she had just killed it and is now checking over it to make sure it's actually dead

Y'know, even though these two figures were sold together in a single set - I was planning on giving them two separate galleries but I decided against that because there's really not much to talk about re: the Imperial Dalek figure?

I mean it's certainly a really good Dalek action figure (and, unfortunately, the only Dalek I own, really do have to get a few more since you can't just have one Dalek) but it's also a Dalek. They don't really do much just because of their design.

Certainly, it does everything a Dalek has to do. It's got three wheels on the underside - with the front wheel also being able to turn - so it can move around, the dome spins, the eyestalk goes up and down, and the arms are on ball joints and can be moved as you wish. But it's a Dalek, it doesn't do anything else as an action figure.

Will say though, I quite like that forced perspective shot I did of the Dalek and a rental car we had at the time. Think it came out quite good and really does make it look as if it were actually a full-sized Dalek and not just a 5-inch action figure of one.

Ace, though, is absolutely ace. I'll admit I'm biased because she's one of my favorite companions in Doctor Who but still this is genuinely a great figure.

I think they captured her actress (Sophie Aldred)'s likeness really well and the articulation is pretty good too. Not gonna pretend it's at the level of something like an SH Figuarts or even a Star Wars Black Series figure, but it still hits a lot of the marks. Neck, shoulders, biceps, elbows, wrists, waist, hips, thighs, and knees.

Special shout out to the shoulder articulation too. It's kinda silly but a lot of Character Options Doctor Who figures only have forward and back rotation at the shoulder but an earlier release of the Ace figure had a removable jacket so they gave her outwards movement as well.

Also gotta have shout out the details on her. In the show, her jackets are always decorated with various pins and patches and they did the same here. Sure, for understandable reasons, a lot of the painted on 'pins' and 'patches' on the action figure are just indistinguishable blobs and shapes but they also added enough that are detailed enough to tell what they are that it doesn't bother you. (Shout out to them painting on two Blue Peter badges, which in real life weren't props for the costume but actual ones Aldred got as a child)
